Crocodiles gathered at the edge of a farm pool

The Farm · Chapter 02

A life measured in more than size.

At first, warmth and shelter matter most. As crocodiles grow, feeding, protection and room to move ask different things of the farm.

Four changing questions

Care has to grow with them.

What needs attention now? Warmth gives way to questions of feeding, outdoor protection and room for larger animals to move.

Four moments from the farm show how the questions change with the animal.

  1. 01 Early care

    Focus / Warmth

    Warmth before the wider world.

The farm describes warmth and sheltered indoor space among its first concerns for young crocodiles. Its account includes heated areas and surfaces that can be cleaned.

The young crocodile pictured here is still small enough to be held in two hands.

  2. 02 As they grow

    Focus / Fair feeding

    Size changes the group.

As young crocodiles grow at different rates, the farm says it groups them by size to address how smaller animals reach food.

As animals grow at different rates, grouping by size becomes part of the daily work.

  3. 03 Outdoors

    Focus / Protection

    Protection changes the setting.

The farm describes cover for young animals outdoors as a response to predators. It also describes checking water and cleaning dams as recurring work.

Water and shade are part of this outdoor setting. The team also works on cover for young animals and on the condition of the water.

  4. 04 Larger animals

    Focus / Movement

    Give movement a choice.

Between two breeder dams, the team opened a passage so large crocodiles could move without capture and relocation. The photograph shows the animals beside water; the passage is explained on The Farm.

The question leather raises

Ask about the whole life.

The material story begins only after an animal’s life ends. The farm’s practices matter to that choice. Come to the place, see the setting and ask the team about the work behind the finished piece.
